About Shane Barrett:

Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Shane Barrett moved to Nashville in 1985. Once he graduated from Hillsboro High School, Shane attended Belmont University and graduated with a Music Business degree in 1991. Shane played guitar and sang background vocals with several touring acts after college including Lacy J. Dalton.

In 1994, Shane joined MCA Records Nashville, starting in the mailroom, and moving up to the A&R Dept. in 1996. Shane then worked as A&R Manager for famed producer and MCA president Tony Brown and eventually signed two acts to the label, Shannon Lawson and Jessi Alexander. Shane left MCA in late 2002 to start his own company, Shane Barrett Songs, LLC. He served as independent songplugger and music consultant to TAXI and a handful of publishing entities in the Nashville market. During that time, Shane’s company secured a Top 10 hit single on Faith Hill’s Fireflies album, “Sunshine and Summertime”, as well as “I Can’t Unlove You”, the top 20 hit single from Kenny Rogers’ 2006 album Water & Bridges.

From January 2006 until May 2010, Shane worked as Creative Director for Canadian-based publishing company, ole Songs, Inc., where he placed songs with Billy Currington (2011 #1 hit “Let Me Down Easy”), Eli Young Band (2011 #1 hit “Crazy Girl”-became Billboard Magazine’s 2011 #1 Hot Country Song and was awarded 2012 ACM Song Of The Year in April, 2012), Montgomery Gentry (recent single “So Called Life”), Martina McBride, Jason Aldean, Gretchen Wilson, Ronnie Milsap, Randy Travis/Josh Turner (duet), Kristy Lee Cook, High Valley, Emerson Drive, Doc Walker, and many others.

*Pitched/Secured Cut on Luke Bryan: “Too Damn Young” appears on Luke’s Platinum-selling album TAILGATES AND TANLINES–on behalf of recent client The Heard Music Group.

*Pitched/Secured 3 cuts on L.A.-based pop/alt./AC artist Brett Young, one co-written with the artist, and one each on behalf of Shane Barrett Music, LLC clients Andrew Rollins and Extreme Writers Group.

*Other cuts on Canadian artists Karen-Lee Batten, Jason Blaine, Nikki Meeres and Roveena.

*Presented Billy Ryan Droze to recent client Directions International, who signed him as an artist.

*Featured cast member on syndicated TV Series Highway To Fame (currently airing as of July 2012; filmed 2011).

Shane is also a full-time member of two songplugger groups, Take a Hit and Singles Only. Meetings with artists, producers, managers and A&R personnel are numerous as each member of these plugger groups works towards securing meetings for the whole group on a regular basis. In addition strategic information and tips are shared among group members in regards to which artists are looking for material, and any specifics relating to their song searches. Singles Only also sponsors quarterly high-profile Writer Shows, featuring performances by some of Nashville’s most successful writers, as well as mid-level writers and up-and-coming writer/artists, all associated with one or more of the members companies.
